Black-owned Restaurants

...Joshua Joseph knew he wanted to be chef by the time he was in middle school.

“I’d be side by side with my mom cooking for special occasions like at Thanksgiving and Christmas,” he said. Joseph, 24, later joined the culinary arts program at his Fort Lauderdale high school before attending culinary school.

After culinary school at Johnson & Wales University, Joseph wanted a change in scenery. His brother had been living in Gainesville and knew a place where he might be able to get his foot in the door, spatula in hand.

Two years ago, he founded Chef JJ Creations, which hosts private dinners, caters events and offers meal prep and family meal services.

Joseph’s cuisine is Caribbean fusion, often bringing island flavor to well-known dishes. One fan favorite is his “Rasta pasta,” which includes jerk seafood seasoning with onions and peppers.

Covid-19 Relief Meals

By: AJ Willy (WCJB)

...Joshua Joseph, another local chef involved in the project, says "We're actually going to be preparing some lemon roasted baked chicken with some smashed sweet potatoes and kale and roasted carrots so we're going to be preparing that for our first week of preparation meals and then every week the menu is going to switch too so next week will be a completely different item on the menu that will be served to the community."
